Income Tax Notices

Your clients may receive an income tax notice from the Comptroller's Office if:

  • we believe they have not paid the correct amount of tax due.
  • they did not pay the full amount due with their income tax return.
  • we believe their Maryland return may need adjustments because of changes the IRS made to the federal return.

If you have questions about the notice, call the phone number on the notice promptly in order to find out how to resolve the dispute or file an appeal and request a hearing. Failure to respond to the notice may cause us to assess additional penalty and interest charges.
