Effective February 1, 2012

The Comptroller's Office will no longer accept cash payments at branch offices.

Cash payments may be made at the Comptroller's Baltimore Office: 301 West Preston Street, Room 206, Baltimore, Maryland

Please note: payments requiring immediately available funds must be made by certified check, cashier's check, teller's check or money order.

New Dependent Form 502B

New form 502B is required to be submitted with Form 502 to determine the exemptions you are entitled to claim for tax year 2011. taxpayers claiming more than two dependents must use Form 502.

Electronic 1099G

At the bottom of the return in the signature area is a check box to indicate that the taxpayer agrees to receive their 1099G electronically. Beginning in February 2012 preparers will be able to access their clients 1099G information on line.

W-2 Submissions

For calendar year 2011, employers/payors with 25 or more W-2/1099R forms with wages/payments subject to Maryland withholding are required to file these statements and the annual withholding reconciliation electronically. They can be filed either by using our free bFile application or by submitting magnetic media in the approved format.

New Subtraction

There is a new subtraction for interest from Build America Bonds.

Electric Vehicle Recharging Equipment Tax Credit

An individual or corporation may be certified to claim a credit fo certain amount of cost for qualified electric vehicle recharging equipment that is placed into service during the tax year in which the credit is claimed. More

Film Production Employment Tax Credit

Businesses may claim a tax credit for film production activities that meet certain qualifications and the estimated total direct costs incurred in this State for those activities exceed $500,000. Certification from the Department o Business and Economic Development is required. More

Earned Income Credit

Effective January 1,2012, pursuant to the 2011 Earned Income Credit Information Act, the Comptroller shall publish the maximum income eligibility for State earned income credit on or before January 1, of each calendar year. The Comptroller shall also notify the employers of such information, and the employers must notify each employee who may be eligible for the credit.

Tax Preparer's Web site

The Comptroller's Office is working toward the development of a tax preparer's website. The website would initially give preparers access to their clients' 1099G information provided the client has authorized it. We plan to go live with the website around February 15, 2012
